2019 Banner Art Walk

This year I had the privilege of being asked to photograph the 2019 Banner Art Walk for the Garden City Downtown Vision, Inc. The banners are crafted from local artists and are specifically themed every year. The Banner Art walk started in 2008 and is a funding mechanism to make improvements to downtown Garden City, Kansas. Such improvements included new benches, sound speakers, and planters to breathe new life into our historic downtown area which is anchored by the Windsor Hotel, which has been a fixture in Garden City since the 1880’s.

The artists come together with their collective thoughts and creative minds to put to canvas what western Kansas and Kansas as a whole mean to them. From the Wizard of Oz, to farming, to the majestic sunflowers, the artists create their visions with passion and the swift stroke of a paintbrush. Each artist signs their work for display not only in downtown, but for the auction as well. These artists deserve much credit for their ingenuity and creative processes to bring these banners to life.

My task was to photograph each banner individually, enhance color and remove blemishes and prepare the images to be sold as extras on canvas or print at the auction which is normally scheduled in November each year. There is a quick deadline as the banners must be photographed within a few days of delivery before the City picks them up and places them on the poles along Main Street.

The 2019 Banner Art Walk is a great program that enhances our downtown, and I am looking forward to the partnership with Garden City Downtown Vision, Inc. as their photographer for this event for years to come. Below is a sample of some of the artist’s work. If you would like to book my services, please send me a message at G. Robertson Photography, email me, or call/text me at 620-640-5226
